Quick recap: I am building a small storage building for the back yard. As of last weekend, the footer blocks were set and ready to receive posts. Then I had to wait....
Finally! The wood arrived Monday afternoon.
I suppose we were the last delivery of the day since ours was the last order on the flatbed. I made room in the side yard for the materials, but with the longest dimension being 16' and the width of the side yard being 15', there wasn’t enough room for everything.
We had to move the longest pieces by hand and since they were bundled with some shorter pieces, we had to move those by hand too.
We finished the day with a couple of stacks of wood and the expectation for a hard day of labor tomorrow.
We got a late start on New Year’s Eve, but with a little supervision, we were able to accomplish a few things.
We didn’t accomplish much since we had to make a run to use our vision benefits before the year ended. We managed to get prescription Ray Bans for $125! Even with the disruption, I was able to get the posts set and the support timbers in place.
Yesterday (Happy New Year!), I framed the floor.
Storms would be rolling in that evening, so I had to finish the floor so we would have a dry place to stack the materials. I also managed to frame up both of the side walls. I didn’t have time to get photos before we stacked everything and covered it. The lumber holding the sheeting in place is all treated. This picture was taken this morning. I found a little ponding, but no leaks. It looks like this should keep it dry until the rain clears out tomorrow.
I guess today is a rest day. There’s some work that could be done in the garage, so maybe that’s where I’ll spend my afternoon....

It would be more fun if I wasn’t under pressure to get it done ASAP. That’s completely self-inflicted, but I can’t help it. I have to be back in Houston next week. After the rain delay, I’ll have a day and a half to get it dried-in.

I admire people who can build such things. I have zero skills in this department. My brother got all those genes from our grandfather. Those genes skipped our dad, too. He can’t drive a nail straight. I can fix things, but I can’t build things. Looking forward to seeing the finished sauna. That’s what your building, right?
Happy New Year to you and yours.

Happy New Year to you and yours too!
The plan is for storage, getting some of my lawn equipment out of the weather, and setting up a basic woodworking shop. We are going to add concrete and a covered area in the side yard so it can be used for trailer/boat storage and as an outdoor work space. That will provide me some space to do some of the renovation work my wife has planned and will be a selling point for the house when we move in a few years. People here love to have a spot to park their boats.
